Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary (1917–1980) was a well-loved Egyptian Quran reciter, known for his clear and emotional voice.
He was born in a small village called Shubra Bas near Tanta, Egypt. By the age of 12, he had memorized the whole Quran. He studied the rules of Quran recitation, called Tajweed, at Al-Azhar University and became an expert.
He was the first person to record the entire Quran in both the Warsh and Qaloon styles, and people all over the world still enjoy listening to his recitations. He also led Egypt’s official Quran recitation institute.
Sheikh Al-Husary lived a simple life and had a deep love for the Quran. His peaceful and beautiful voice makes his recitation of Surah Rahman especially moving.
